The Ragga Twins (RTC), comprised of Hackney-born MCs Deman Rocker and Flinty Badman (David and Trevor Destouche), are widely regarded as pioneers of jungle music and UK sound system culture. Emerging from the UNITY sound system in London, they helped shape the early sounds of jungle and breakbeat, leaving a lasting mark on the scene.
Their groundbreaking collaborations with Shut Up and Dance in the early 1990s were later celebrated in the Ragga Twins Step Out compilation, released by Soul Jazz Records in 2008. Over the years, the Twins developed a long-standing musical partnership with Aquasky, starting in 2001 with the tracks “All In Check” and “Loko” for Botchit & Scarper. Together, they continued to release music through labels like Moving Shadow and Aquasky’s Passenger imprint, with several key tracks becoming staples in the breakbeat and drum & bass scenes.
In 2004, their track “Dem No No We” was featured in HBO’s Ali G in Da USAiii, introducing their sound to a new international audience. Throughout the 2000s and 2010s, the Ragga Twins remained highly active, lending their vocals to singles like Backdraft’s “Rock the Mic” and collaborating with artists such as Mason and the Fraudster on “U Appear.”
In 2014, their profile exploded within the global EDM community following high-profile collaborations with Skrillex, featuring on his album Recess with the tracks “Ragga Bomb” and “All is Fair in Love and Brostep.” These tracks introduced them to a new generation of fans and led to a wave of features with artists such as Ookay, Barely Alive, Kutski & Audiofreq, Northbase, and Smookie Illson.
The Ragga Twins also continued their legacy with Payback Records, releasing tracks like “Deadly Zone,” which reflects on their upbringing in Hackney, as well as singles including “Trippin & Bunnin,” “For The People” (featuring Seanie T), and “Vigilante” (featuring Spyda), all accompanied by music videos. Their track “Badman” was notably remixed by Skrillex and featured on the Owsla Spring Collection.
After more than three decades in the game, the Ragga Twins continue to perform regularly at clubs, festivals, and parties worldwide, bringing their unmistakable energy and legendary status to every stage.
