Almost Radical

Known for being one of the most forward thinking artists out of San Diego, CA, Circuit System head Almost Radical recently sat down with United By Bass to discuss which Top 5 eclectic tunes are at the top of his playlist right now. Needless to say, he did not disappoint and came through with a truly diverse and eclectic list of tunes. Check them out today and make sure to follow Almost radical at the links below.

Recently I’ve been working on changing up my approach to DJing and refine my sound more than ever before. These 5 tracks are a small sample of inspirations from a few different corners of my listening spectrum over the past year or so. I’ve tried to cover a good range of hybrid styles here, in hopes that there’s a little something for everyone to dig into. Enjoy!

1) Vexxy - Wanna B With U (Gloomy remix)

This track right here is from two of my favorite artists on one of my favorite labels at the moment, Plasma Abuse. Gloomy and Vexxy have both been in their own lane, fusing genres and blurring the lines between wave music and modern grime. This one really stands out to me, I haven’t heard anything else like it. A bit of a departure from Gloomy’s more squarewave-oriented style, the vocals paired with those sparkly arps and rowdy basslines just create an incredible new sonic environment.

2) Bladee - Obedient (ft. Ecco2K)

After listening to a lot of wave and more emotive dance music, these past few years have found me digging deeper into cloud rap stuff and, more specifically, Drain Gang. Their D&G compilation really set the mood for me, but this track from Bladee’s Red Light album is the one I just can’t stop playing on repeat. It’s one of the more upbeat tunes in his catalog and the melody in Ecco’s verse just gets me every time.

3) DJ Netflex - San Junipero (For Estoc)

DJ Netflex’s ambient gabber experiments are a somewhat new addition to my listening rotation. Hard dance isn’t generally up my alley, but this release is full of some undeniably epic rave tracks. I’m loving all the atmospheres here in combination with the breakbeats, everything comes together just right to make for an awesom uplifting club tune. Really happy to have discovered this project, and I’d highly recommend checking out their other work as Medulasa and DJ AirDnB for the deconstructed club music and jungle fans out there.

4) Vacant - Transit

For me, this may be the most important tune on this list right now. Vacant’s music is nothing short of incredible, he’s been one of my favorite artists since I first came across his stuff. The tech trance elements in this track, intertwined with his dark signature future garage sound is just on a whole different level. Finding music in this realm is pretty rare, but everything that does exist is an absolute gem. This song alone has completely inspired me to dig back into trance and re-invigorate my whole sound as a DJ, bringing trance and techno themes further into the space of bass music.

5) Hackman - Forgotten Notes (BSN Posse x Manul & Energy Man edit)

Been playing this one a lot over the past year, in my DJ sets and at home. I just can’t get enough of this track. I love how they’ve taken the house-y soul of the original track and turned it into a proper feel-good jungle banger here. BSN Posse are some of my favorite footwork jungle producers and Manul & Energy Man have been absolutely crushing it with the 140 tunes.
